FAQ-Vehicle Acquisition
If
we apply for a vehicle, may travel costs for visits to the manufacturer
to inspect a piece of fire apparatus be included in our request?
Yes. Travel costs may be included in your request and should be
added to your budget by clicking on "Add Additional Funding"
on the Request Details screen on the automated application and
entering your costs on the "travel" line. If you're
filling out a paper application, add the costs to the total budget
under "travel". In either case, you must explain the
costs in your narrative.
If we apply for a vehicle, may we
include the equipment to supply it?
Yes. The equipment that is included in NFPA 1901 is considered
an eligible request. For EMS transport vehicles, the minimum equipment
required by the applicants state Emergency Medical Services is
considered an eligible request. All costs should be explained
in the narrative portion of your application.
Are
transportation expenses, including a tow vehicle, covered?
Tow vehicles for fire prevention programs and the like may be
eligible as a transportation expense if adequately justified in
the proposal, but such transportation expenses will be limited
to $6,000 per year.
Is a tractor-trailer considered
a single vehicle or is the tractor a separate unit, and can we
request a tow vehicle for our fire safety trailer?
They can be considered either as a single unit or the combination
of a tractor and trailer may also be considered as a single unit
depending upon local need and the ability to justify the request.
However, no more than $6,000 per year can be expended for the
procurement of the tractor.
